Nigel Payn: 1st Assistant Director
TV Production:

Nigel is one of the Country's leading 1st Assistant Directors.

He has worked in all sorts of capacities on many major TV Productions over the years.

Nigel was responsible for helping to set up and run the ITV Drama Directors Course where Trainee Directors worked under his tutelage and were then assessed as to their suitability to become fully fledged TV Drama Directors.

Nigel is an experienced workshop leader and is able to lecture on all aspects of TV Production in Schools Colleges and Universities.

Founding Artistic Director of Paines Plough:
Britain's Premier New Writing Touring Company which is still operating after 30 successful years. Paines Plough toured to The National Theatre and abroad winning two Edinburgh Fringe First Awards and The John Whiting Award.

Artistic Director, Octagon Theatre Bolton:
Restructured the Management System and eliminated deficit.
Winner of The Manchester Evening News Best Production Award for Hamlet and No Orchids For Miss Blandish.

Artistic Director/Chief Executive Birmingham Repertory Theatre:
Chief Executive responsible for £2million turnover 100 plus staff.
Re-established the Theatre's reputation and eliminated deficit.
Established Community Team and Touring Department.
Co-Produced Branagh's Renaissance Theatre Company.

Artistic Director, Haymarket Theatre Basingstoke:
Revitalised Theatre and re-established the Haymarket's reputation.
Eliminated deficit and increased Community and Youth involvement.

Theatre Management

Charles Mumford: Theatre Management

Formerly Managing Director and Head of Programming for Southend Theatres.

Many years of Programming and Management in both Local Government and Private Sector.

Charles Mumford managed the Cliffs Pavilion a 1630 seater Theatre/Concert Hall and the Palace Theatre Westcliff a Frank Matcham style Edwardian 600 seat Theatre with a 100 seat studio space attached.

As Managing Director of Southend Theatres he was responsible for planning and promoting a diverse programme of entertainment and Performing Arts Events at the two premier receiving venues in the region.

The programme included West End touring musicals; mid to large scale ballet and opera companies. International Orchestral Concert series. The provision of first class pantomime and Christmas shows; plays and Drama seasons Comedy and Jazz Festivals.

Planned and implemented Marketing Strategy, Financial Business Planning and budgetary control with a budget of £1.3 Million and a turnover of over £6 Million with combined attendances of over 410,000.

Charles achieved European Quality management standard and Investors In People for Southend Theatres.

He is expert in Contract Law, Employee Legislation, Health and Safety, Marketing, Audience Development and Project management.

Charles Mumford is a member of The Theatrical Management Association.

He is available to Guest Lecture in Schools Colleges and Universities for Arts Management Courses and Organising and Planning an event.

International voice specialist

Mel Churcher: International voice specialist
International voice specialist, Mel Churcher, works with leading actors in film and theatre as well as leaders in Business, Commerce, Sport and the eaching Professions.

Mel was Head of Voice at the Regents Park Open Air Theatre from 1996-2007, possibly one of the most challenging environments for performers to work in, vocally.

She is also a renowned Acting & Dialogue coach who has worked with many top directors whose impressive list of film credits includes 'Control', 'Unleashed', 'The Fifth Element', 'Snatch' and 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider'.

Her theatrical voice and text work includes The Royal Shakespeare Company at The Barbican, Shakespeare's Globe, Manchester Royal Exchange, The Young Vic and The Royal Court.

Leading actors she has worked with include Daniel Craig, Ioan Gruffud, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Mila Jovovich, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Lange, Keira Knightly, Jon Voight and Ray Winstone.

Mel is available to both lecture and carry out Vocal Training Workshops for Staff and Performing Arts Students in Schools Colleges and Universities around the Country.

Production Designer (Theatre)

Elroy Ashmore: Production Designer (Theatre)
Elroy studied design on the Motley Design Course before assisting various eminent designers at the English National Opera and the National Theatre. He then became the Assistant Designer for the newly opened Young Vic designing their first two productions prior to assisting at the Thorndike Theatre in Leatherhead where he designed a further 6 productions. Head of Design positions followed at the Pitlochery Festival Theatre, The Horseshoe Theatre Company in Basingstoke and the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry. During this period he designed over 100 productions.

Elroy now designs on a freelance basis and his work has been seen throughout the UK and abroad in addition to being a regular designer at the Haymarket Theatre in Basingstoke where he has designed over 80 productions. He has designed ballets in Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and America, plays in Germany, Austria, Malta and America where he was also asked to lecture at New York University. He regularly designs pantomimes in Northern Ireland and operas in the UK and most recently in Iceland.

In addition to his design work during his career Elroy has lectured on design on a freelance basis in further education. He has taught A level History of Modern Art and has held the post of Head of Design - Senior Design Lecturer at the Mountview Theatre School for 3 years.

Costume Designer

Pip Hazell: Costume Designer

Pip is a visiting tutor at The Central School of Speech and Drama, The London College of Fashion and The Wimbledon School of Art.

Since graduating with a Double First-Class Honours BA in Theatre Studies (Costume) Pip has had a varied and extensive career.

Pip has worked as a Costume Designer on many Theatre Shows and Film and TV Productions.

Her credits include.
Sadler's Wells Ballet, Children's Ballet, Opera North, Glyndebourne and Opera Denmark.

Pip has worked on many West End Shows including 'Chicago', 'My Fair Lady', 'Lion King' 'Beauty and The Beast', 'Woman in White', 'Mary Poppins' and many others.

Her TV credits include 'Jackanory' 'Sir Gadabout' and 'Blue Peter'.

Film work includes, 'The Aviator', 'Mikado', 'Elizabeth' and 'Elizabeth The Golden Years'.

Pip is available to lecture on all aspects of Costume Making and Design in Schools, Colleges and Universities.

Theatre Lighting Designer

Christopher Ellis: Theatre Lighting Designer

Chris regulary designs in London's West End. He has created opera designs for the National Musikteater Amsterdam, Den Norske Oper, the Royal Opera House, the English National, Welsh National, Scottish and Opera North companies. He also works extensively for the Royal Shakespeare, English Shakespeare, Royal National Theatre and Hamburg Deutscher Schauspielhaus companies and in 1986 opened “Me and My Girl” on Broadway.

In 1972 designed his first West End production of Lloyd George Knew My Father with Ralph Richardson and Peggy Ashcroft.

In conjunction with the City Architects he planned the lighting installation for the new Haymarket Theatre and in 1973 moved there as Head of Lighting.

In 1977 designed his first production at the new National Theatre followed in 1978 by his first production for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

In 1980 became Production Manager at Leicester Haymarket Theatre.

In 1984 became an Associate Director at the Leicester Haymarket Theatre while continuing with his national freelance lighting career. Designed first opera for Royal Opera House.

In 1988 joined the Drama Panel of East Midlands Arts. Also appointed design consultant to the Deutscher Schauspielhaus in Hamburg.

In 1990 -1992 Theatre Director and later Chief Executive of the Leicester Haymarket Theatre.

In 1993 left the Haymarket Theatre to pursue a full-time freelance career in lighting design.

In 1997 became advisor on church lighting to the Leicester Diocesan Advisory Committee.

In 1998 formed Chris Ellis Lighting to offer architects a programmable adaptable lighting environment for their designs and projects.

In 2000 awarded the Live 2000 Silver award for Lighting Designer of the Year.

In 2001 designed stage and lighting systems for the new Singapore Repertory Theatre.

In 2002 designed the opening production for the new Esplanade Theatre, Singapore..

In 2004 designed stage and lighting systems for the new Teatro della Luna, Milan.

In 2005 appointed as Associate Artist at Chichester Festival Theatre for 2005 season.

In 2007 part of lighting consultancy for the new Curve Theatre in Leicester.
