I have just finished viewing the above video before adding it to our resource library. I felt it gave a comprehensive and realistic insight into the range of occupations within the performing arts and will be a valuable resource for any person considering this as a career aim - or for anyone working with students within this vocational area. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to educational institutions.
"Getting Started in the Performing Arts is a teaching video which is
frequently used by the staff as a learning resource in BTEC National and
First Diploma Performing Arts programmes. It is also a reference source in
the College library for students to use in both their practical and
written assignments. We have found that it has a good depth of current
information, allowing students to see and hear people with authority and
experience in their industry, has caught their attention and in many
cases given focus to the unknown about their future life in the work
place and confidence in what they hope they are going to do in the future.
It gives positive relevant advice, especially about preparation for and
industry expectation of agents and auditions, for example. It introduces
the range and necessary work of Unions and supporting bodies to both
performers and musicians. It takes you into their offices, asks the
questions students need to know and didn't know they needed to ask - it
fills in the business perspective to a hard working industry which
doesn't really need to find out about them but through this film very
possibly could do just that!"
